한미일 "대화와 외교로 한반도 평화·안정 유지…비핵화 공조"

[사건의내막/ 문홍철 기자] = 한미일 3개국 외교장관은 북한의 위협에 확고한 억제 태세를 유지하는 가운데, 대화와 외교를 통한 한반도 평화·안정 유지 및 비핵화 목표 실현을 위해 계속 긴밀히 공조하기로 했다.

 

외교부에 따르면, 제81차 유엔총회 고위급주간 참석차 미국 뉴욕을 방문한조현 외교부 장관은 21일(현지시간) 마코 루비오 미국 국무장관 및 모테기 도시미쓰 일본 외무대신과 외교장관회의를 갖고 한반도 문제, 지역·글로벌 정세, 경제안보 및 실질협력 등에 대해 논의하고 공동성명을 채택했다.

 

한미일 외교장관회의는 지난 7월 북대서양조약기구(나토·NATO) 정상회의와 동남아시아국가연합(아세안·ASEAN) 관련 장관회의 계기로 개최된 데 이어 올해 3번째다.

3개국 장관들은 장관들은 동북아, 중동 등 주요 지역·글로벌 정세에 대해 의견을 교환하고 국제정세 불확실성이 증대되는 상황에서 소통과 공조를 더욱 강화할 필요가 있다는 데 뜻을 같이했다.

3개국장관은 반도체, 인공지능(AI), 양자, 디지털 인프라, 바이오 등 핵심·신흥기술 분야에서 실질 협력을 강화하는 한편 첨단기술 보호, 공급망 다변화 및 회복력 증진, 경제적 강압 대응 등 공조를 심화해 나가기로 했다.

 

특히 지난 7월 한미일 외교장관회의를 계기로 체결된 '한미일 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 협력각서(MOU)'를 효과적이고 호혜적으로 시행하기 위한 이행 계획이 수립된 것을 환영했다.

 

3개국 장관들은 한미일 협력이 3개국 국민들에 실질적 혜택을 가져다주는 성과로 이어질 수 있도록 분야별·각급 협의체를 더욱 활발히 가동하기로 했다.
