[사건의내막 / 문홍철 기자] = 최교진 교육부장관은 8일부터 10일까지 몽골 울란바타르를 방문해몽골 교육부와 교육협력 양해각서를 체결하고 다양한 분야 교육협력 확대 방안을 논의했다고 10일 밝혔다.
이번 방문은 이재명 대통령의 몽골 순방을 계기로 양국 간 교육협력을 한층 구체화하기 위해 추진됐다.
최 장관은 9일 몽골 교육부 장관을 만나 양국의 교육혁신 경험을 공유하고, 교육협력 양해각서를 체결했다.
이를 계기로 한국과 몽골 간 교육협력 범위를 학교급식, 직업·기술교육 등까지 확대할 계획이다. 학교급식 정책과 식품 안전 및 영양 기준 정보 등을 교류하고, 직업·기술교육훈련(TVET)과 교육과정 운영 등 경험을 공유한다.
이후 최교진 장관은 교육부가 디지털 교육 세계화(ODA) 사업을 통해 구축·지원하고 있는 '디지털 시범교실' 운영학교인 제21공립학교를 방문했다.

해당 시범교실은 학생 수업뿐 아니라 교원 연수와 공무원 AI 연수에도 활용되는 등 몽골의 디지털 교육 전환을 지원하는 대표적 협력 사례다.
10일에는 몽골 내 한국어교육 운영 현황을 살펴보기 위해 현지 한국어 채택교인 제 23공립학교를 방문했다. 현재 몽골에서는 33개 학교에서 약 6000명 학생들이 한국어를 배우고 있다.
교육부는 몽골 맞춤형 한국어 교재 개발·보급과 현지 교원의 역량 강화 등을 지속적으로 지원하고 있다.
이어 교육부가 개도국의 고등교육 역량 강화를 위해 추진하는 '국제협력 선도대학(ODA) 사업' 참여 대학을 방문해, 한국이 지원하는 대학별 사업의 현황을 살펴봤다.
몽골과학기술대학교의 '문화재 보존을 위한 전문 인력 양성 사업'과 몽골국립의과대학교의 '기초의과대학 역량강화 사업'의 현황을 살펴보고, 양국 간 고등교육의 협력 확대 방안을 논의했다.
국제협력 선도대학(ODA) 사업은 국내 대학과 개도국 대학이 협력하여 학과 신설·개편, 교육과정 개발, 교수 역량 강화 등을 종합 지원하는 고등교육 역량 강화 사업이다.
현재까지 전 세계 53개 대학을 지원했으며 몽골의 경우 몽골 과학기술대학교, 몽골국립의과대학교, 몽골 민족대학교 3개 대학이 참여하고 있다.
최 장관은 "국내 대학에서 수학 중인 몽골 유학생은 약 1만 5000명으로 몽골은 중국, 베트남, 우즈베키스탄 다음 네 번째로 인적 교류가 활발한 주요 교육협력국"이라며 "이번 교육협력 양해각서 체결을 계기로 인공지능·디지털 교육을 비롯해 학교급식, 직업·기술교육, 한국어교육, 고등교육 등 다양한 분야에서 실질적 협력을 더욱 확대하겠다"고 밝혔다.
